St. Maarten Medical Center is an ambitious and growing hospital organization on the Dutch Caribbean island of St. Maarten. With 430 FTEs, 30 specialists and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care, close to home. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 nationalities. In addition, we also offer healthcare services to two million visitors annually. SMMC has started the construction of the new St. Maarten General Hospital to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors and the neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.

St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) opened its doors on March 17th, 1991 and is a non-profit organization that manages and carries out hospital functions serving the community of Dutch St. Maarten in the Northeastern Caribbean. Our patient care services also support the surrounding islands such as Saba, St. Eustatius and Anguilla as well as others in the region.

Our facility has 80 inpatient beds, approximately 430 employees and over 30 attending specialists are affiliated with the organization. We have built a solid foundation to ensure continuity in high quality patient-centered hospital care close to home, based on evidenced based care processes and transparency.

With a new state-of-the-art general hospital, St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH), currently under construction: we are aiming to become the regional leader as an accredited medical institution.

The hospital boasts a diverse nursing staff, recruited locally and internationally, to serve the multicultural and multi-lingual needs of the community. The nursing staff is supported by our in-house nationally accredited Education Department, whose task it is to offer training, upgrading and specialization courses in the field of nursing as well as defining patient handling protocols to ensure that SMMC meets the highest standards in patient care.
